For a long time in Australia, vested interest groups have donated large amounts of money towards election campaigns, giving the major parties a huge advantage. Grassroots community campaigns are people powered and the costs add up for community candidates. They need to commit to full-time campaigning, which means a period without paid work. They also need a team for campaign planning and coordination and a bigger team of volunteers to help them reach the community through events, door-knocking and other outreach. All that volunteer work is generally unpaid. The community has energy and drive, but needs specialised campaign materials and support to compete with the major parties, such as:
- website design, social media management and database integration,
- corflutes, flyers, printing,
- office space,
- photography and advertising,
- registration, legal advice, accounting, and
- merchandise such as T-shirts.
Your donation will go directly to community campaigns and their independent candidates to cover the above costs and makes a huge contribution to their campaigns. We know the candidates have the vision, courage, and the values needed to represent our communities. Together we can increase their visibility!
